When choosing a study abroad program there are many choices that one has to make. The most important question is where do you want to study abroad? The next is what do you want to get out of studying abroad? And lastly, what program should I choose?I have fortunately been lucky enough to engage in two study abroad experiences. One was more traditional and the other was more hands-on, similar to Eco English Experience.
The more traditional program was at University College Dublin in Ireland. It was an amazing experience. I made new friends and learned about a new culture. Despite all the amazing aspects of it I still had to go to classes everyday as I would at my home university. Other than living within a new culture, not much else changed from my everyday life back at home.
My second program was with the Sea Education Association. I spent two months sailing the Pacific Ocean. All the learning I did was hands-on and a lot of fun. There was never a dull lecture that I had to attend everyday. I learned a lot about the ocean, other cultures from the islands we visited, and a big picture view of how important sustainability practices are to our planet. I was also able to develop leadership skills and made a lot of friends in the process.
This is why I believe a program like Eco English Experience is so great! Studying at a normal university in a different country is not much different than studying at home. A unique study abroad experience allows you to try new things and opens yourself to a new perspective about our planet.
